ICETROLL guides are qualified from the Norsk Fjellsportforum (Norwegian Mountain Guiding Assn) and the British Canoe Union, both of which are highly regarded organisations in their fields. ICETROLL guides have also completed comprehensive pre-Hospital First Aid courses and have high levels of interpretation of glaciation and the local area.
Manager Andy Cullens began working as a glacier guide in New Zealand in 1996 for Franz Josef Glacier Guides. He was a manager for the company when he left New Zealand for Iceland. He spent the 2000-summer season guiding in 'Superjeeps' on Iceland's icecaps. After touring Norway, Andy began working for Jostedalen Breførarlag, the glacier guiding company of the region. Having spent two summer seasons in Jostedalen, Andy then started ICETROLL in 2003. By combining both kayaking and glacier hiking in remote areas, ICETROLL are offering unique tours for both clients and guides.
ICETROLL are lucky to have 3 very experienced guides to help you enjoy your tours in Jostedalen to the maximum.
Bjørn Andre Skjæret, local to the area, has a lot of outdoor experience in Jostedalen, both winter and summer, where he worked for Jostedalen Breførarlag before joining ICETROLL. Bjørn Andre's main interests are in skiing and climbing during his spare time.
Anders Espeset, another veteran of the Breførarlag, comes to Jostedalen from Fløro on the West Coast of Norway. He has vast experience in both kayaking and Mountain travel around Norway. Anders recently completed a ski tour from the south of Norway to near the arctic circle, a tour taking over 2 months.
Kylie Wakelin, a New Zealander, has gathered experience from around the world, including Greenland, Antarctica and also NZ, where she has co-owned an adventure tourism company (Glacier Explorers) since the tender age of 19! Offering boating tours over a Glacier Lake to New Zealands longest glacier, the Tasman, luckily for ICETROLL this company is also only able to operate on the Glacier Lake in the summer months.
