STYGGEVATNET (1200m ASL) is covered by snow from winter until early July (usually).
In June we offer Snow Shoe tours over the frozen lake and onto the glacier. The chance to walk right around icebergs stranded on land and up over the front of the glacier should not be missed!
When the surface of the lake is free of ice/ snow, we start the kayak tours. This season (2012) we expect will be around 5th July.
We begin with a 1,5 hour kayak around icebergs to get to Austdalsbreen (Glacier) with its 45m high front that calves towers of ice into the lake.
With the kayaks safely on the hillside, we have lunch at the front of the
glacier. This is your chance to relax, ask questions, eat, while the glacier
gets ready for its next calving.
After the break we put on glacier equipment
for a completely unique glacier hike. An easy walk amongst a myriad of crevasses
across the front of the glacier completes the experience: kayaking up to,
sitting in front of, standing on top of, this natural wonder.
