What to Expect

The Elvepurka trip continues on from the Little Piggies, where we have taught control of the raft. So when the white water hits, you are able to get us through it…at least, that is the plan!

We first see the white-water once we have passed the ELVEPURKA rock that sticks out into the river – Norwegian folklore says this river pig is hungry for children, or any others passing by, so paddle quick. The river narrows into a canyon, creating a wave-train, wave after wave trying to knock us out. After the canyon there are surf waves we can try to catch before the final canyon and biggest waves of the tour

Success on this trip only means you will be eager to join BOSS HOG, where we find our biggest whitewater rafting section of the Jostedal river.

There is a four-person minimum for this whitewater tour. If you are less than 4 people, we can include you on tours with others, of course.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No previous rafting experience is required, and you do not need to be able to swim.

You will wear a flotation device (life jacket), and your guide will provide clear instructions before and during the trip. As long as you follow those instructions, you can expect a safe and enjoyable experience.

  • We provide all technical equipment: wetsuit, wetsuit jacket, neoprene booties, life jacket and helmet.

On colder days, it is a good idea to bring wool layers (wool top, trousers and socks) to wear under the wetsuit. Please avoid cotton clothing, as it does not keep you warm when wet. Swimwear or underwear under the wetsuit is perfect.

If you wear glasses, that is no problem. We sell RiverPig glasses straps before the tour if you would like extra security. Please note that wearing glasses is at your own risk.

  • Rafting is actually one of the best activities in bad weather. You will be wearing a wetsuit, so getting wet is part of the experience. Rain rarely affects the quality of the trip — sometimes it even adds to the atmosphere.

If conditions are unsafe due to extreme river levels, we will reschedule, offer alternatives, or provide a full refund if you prefer.

  • All tours begin on the Little Piggies section, which is ideal for families, beginners and anyone wanting a fun introduction to rafting.

Elvepurka continues downstream with bigger waves and more excitement. As the river builds gradually, it is possible for guests to step out before the more challenging sections if needed. The guide always has the final decision based on river conditions and group suitability.

For families with children both under and over the age limit for Elvepurka, there are flexible options available. Please contact us and we will help you choose the best solution for your group.

  • Boss Hog is our most advanced rafting experience, running through a narrow canyon near Myklemyr. River levels must fall within a specific range, which means this tour cannot operate every day.

If you request Boss Hog and conditions are unsuitable, we will offer you a place on Elvepurka and refund the difference. If river levels are too high for Boss Hog, Elvepurka can still provide an exciting experience. If you prefer to cancel instead, we will provide a full refund.

  • Rafting is an adventure activity on moving water, and inherent risks exist. We minimise these risks through careful planning, professional judgement and experienced guides.

All trips are led by highly trained guides with extensive experience on this river. Before departure, you will receive a full safety briefing and must follow all guide instructions at all times. You will also sign a declaration confirming that you will follow the guide’s instructions and accept the risks explained during the safety briefing.

Our primary goals are your safety and, through that, your enjoyment.
